Mario Hezonja came to the NBA with a lot of hype as the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Hezonja confirmed the transfer with a Tweet, saying: -Start spreading the news.I want to be a part of it, New York, New York!

23-year-old Hezonja was made an unrestricted free agent by the Magic, after declining its four-year option on the Croatian forward. Wojnarowski reports that Hezonja was drawn to working with new Knicks head coach David Fizdale. A dream come true!

NY and the 23-year-old wing agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million contract Sunday, according to a report from ESPN. He did show signs of turning the corner last season, however, averaging a career-high 9.6 points. He shot 44.2 percent from the field, including 33.7 percent from 3-point range. Their motive has been to maintain as much cap room as possible for 2019 when Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker and Kawhi Leonard could all hit the open market. The Knicks might be able to flip him for a draft pick.

Signing Hezonja may not guarantee that any of those players will come to NY, but it certainly implies that Fizdale can indeed connect with the modern athlete. The Knicks used Kornet's non-Bird rights to make that deal.
