It appears some Clevelanders will be drowning their sorrows over LeBron James leaving while wearing his new Los Angeles Lakers No. 23 jersey. Then, late-Monday, it was reported that the Golden State Warriors came to terms on a contract to replace McGee with DeMarcus Cousins - a move that sent shockwaves across the entire National Basketball Association.

LeBron's four-year deal (player option for the fourth year) indicates a willingness to show some patience, so perhaps the Lakers felt throwing Cousins into the mix late in the season would disrupt whatever chemistry their team might have built throughout the season. As it stands, Lonzo Ball is arguably a more competent lead guard as he is bigger, a better defender (by far), a gifted passer and, while he is an inconsistent shooter, he normally draws more defensive pressure from distance than Rondo. Leonard's value also decreased once he requested a trade through the media.

LeBron James is going to Hollywood.

Per Spotrac, the Lakers now have $1.38 million in cap space left.

This is James' third team in eight years. The 7-footer (2.13m) has career averages of 7.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots a game. Of course, the pair's many postseason runs have included numerous showdowns as opponents of James when he played for the Cavs and Heat, including the unforgettable moment in the 2014 Eastern Conference finals when Stephenson blew in a certain someone's ear. At 270 pounds (listed weight), Cousins would probably take a while to get back into the swing of things, so you're really talking about two months - maybe three if they make the playoffs - with Cousins in the fold.

Pairing Lillard with James would give the Lakers a chance to compete with the Warriors.
