There have been some complaints recently on Samsung's official forums and Reddit that the native messaging app on some handsets, including newer models like the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9, is sending out photos stored on the device to random contacts over SMS.

Users posted complaints on Reddit and Samsung's support forums about a odd issue that appears to be silently sending photos to random contacts. "Last night around 2:30 am, my phone sent her my entire photo gallery over text but there was no record of it on my messages app". The pictures, like the recipients, are seemingly picked at random from handheld's contacts, and the messages do not appear in the application's sent box. What's clear is that the bug is not device-specific or network-specific, with speculation regarding the cause of the bug revolving around recent Samsung Messages updates.

If you have a Samsung phone this would seem to be relevant information for you. He wrote that the app was sending scheduled messages early, that some messages were ending up in wrong threads. RCS improves the legacy SMS protocol with additional features such as read reports, media sharing and more.

Samsung commented to Business Insider, saying: "We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it". Since several accounts said photos had been randomly sent to partners or family members, there is also speculation that the problem affects shared plans. Until then, there are two easy fixes for the concerned users: 1.

T-Mobile reportedly told Gizmodo that "It's not a T-Mobile issue", pointing them back to Samsung. El Reg asked the chaebol for any explanation, and will let you know if we hear more.

Until a proper solution is put in place, users are advised to go into the settings on your phone and revoke Samsung messages' access to your phone's storage. Samsung Messages is the default messaging app on Samsung phones.
