Like other Android phone company, OnePlus too are supposed to offer a minimum of 18 months of firmware support. The schedule states that all phones will receive a full 2 years worth of "regular software maintenance" updates, as well as an additional 1 year of "software security maintenance" updates.

OnePlus has announced that it will give timely update to it's flagship devices starting from OnePlus 3 to the latest OnePlus 6.

OnePlus has officially said that the OnePlus 3, 3T will keep getting regular OTA (over-the-air) updates until November 2018.

OnePlus phones won't miss out on Android sweet treats.

The lack of system and security updates in the Android handset world has always been a thorn on users' sides, and it's certainly one of the factors contributing to Apple's success with its phone business. The Android updates for OnePlus users will include an addition of new features, upgradations of Android versions as well as bug fixes. This schedule applies to all OnePlus 3/3T, OnePlus 5/5T, OnePlus 6 devices and will be effective immediately. What this means is that the OnePlus 3 and 3T which were launched back in 2016 and were nearing their two-year update cycle end, will get another year of Android security patch update. The OnePlus 5 and 5T will receive regular OTA updates from the company until November of 2019, going by the new maintenance programme from the company.

OnePlus were one of the chosen partners that saw inclusion in the Android P Developer Preview as the first time Google has widened the availability of new firmware beyond Pixel devices. "We look forward to bring you more exciting news about Android version updates in the coming months, stay tuned", concluded OnePlus.

The commitment may sway those Android fans who've been on the fence about buying the OnePlus 6, the latest and greatest phone from the company.
