In return, the Hawks will acquire the draft rights to Trae Young, who was expected to be selected by the Mavs at No. 5 overall on Thursday.

James was the top pick in the 2003 NBA Draft after a spectacular high school career in which a number of his games were nationally televised. Two picks are down.

With the Suns reportedly set on Arizona's Deandre Ayton with the top overall pick, Doncic would have to fall past just one team, the Kings at No. 2, for the Hawks to have a shot at Doncic.

The Atlanta Hawks and the Dallas Mavericks - who were reportedly struggling to finish a deal in recent days leading up to Thursday's National Basketball Association draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn - finally got it done.

Atlanta and Dallas have agreed to a deal, league sources tell ESPN.

The Dallas Mavericks selected Trae Young, point guard from Oklahoma, with the fifth pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, but they quickly traded him to Atlanta after the Hawks selected Luka Doncic, a guard from Slovenia, with the third pick of the draft.

In addition to flipping picks, the Mavericks will send the Hawks a future first-round pick that is protected in 2019.

The Mavericks will get Doncic and hope he turns into their next great European star behind Dirk Nowtizki. Stay tuned for further drama as the draft unfolds.
