In his first ever TV interview, Markle was again attempting to clear the air about the scandal over his staging paparazzi photos and his need to back out of walking his daughter down the aisle at her May 19 wedding to have heart surgery.
The Duchess of Sussex's father has said he expects his daughter will want to have children soon, and that she cried when he revealed he would not be attending her wedding.
Asked whether a royal baby might be imminent, he said of his daughter: "She's wanted children for a long time".
And with regard to the huge social gap his daughter would have to straddle he said: "The royals are very complicated".
His ex-wife Doria Ragland was subsequently the only member of her family to attend the service, and Thomas said she did "very well" but he wishes she was sitting with someone in St George's Chapel. They both said, 'Take care of yourself.
"I said, "You are a gentleman".
"My daughter is capable of anything and she will be a compliment to the royal family", he assured the hosts.
The older Markle said he has accepted responsibility for his behaviour before the wedding: "I can say I'm sorry for those things for the rest of my life".
He said in an interview with Good Morning Britain: "About a day, day after [the wedding] I spoke to them both". Everybody was watching my daughter and I couldn't have been more proud. I still like Harry.
Markle had been due to take part in the ceremony, and said that he had even started working on his speech but he eventually stayed away, saying he needed heart surgery. "I think he was open to the experiment".
He went on to explain how Harry approached asking for Thomas' permission to marry his daughter before news of their engagement broke last fall.
So, I thought this would be a nice way of improving my look. I wanted that moment.
He added that he would "love to meet" Queen Elizabeth II.
Of course, Meghan might have been forced to give up her favorite food for her husband, but in return, she now has a loving husband in the form of a charming prince!
