The studio is one of five that Phil Spencer just announced have been acquired by Microsoft at the company's E3 conference early today.

Last but by no means least, we got confirmation of a new Battletoads gaming coming in 2019 and two dollops of Sea of Thieves DLC on the way later this year. Our MR devices work with Steam games now - I love what's happening there - and in the living room there are still, in my opinion, challenges to be solved. Those events began Saturday with the kickoff of Electronic Arts' (EA) EA Play fan fest in Hollywood.

The four acquisitions mark a major expansion of Microsoft Studios in a move to ensure that Xbox has plenty of games made for the gaming console, and by the team behind the console.

Ninja Theory has designed titles including Hellblade, Undead Labs has released the State of Decay series, and Compulsion Games is working on its new title We Happy Few which will launch this year.

Microsoft also said it would start a new studio of its own, called The Initiative, which will be based in Santa Monica. "We found innovative game designers, master storytellers and exceptional world builders".

The Xbox exec continued by announcing that Microsoft's hardware team is deep on architecting the next Xbox Console. Microsoft already allows in-home game streaming with its Xbox console and the Xbox app on the PC and this streaming service is a natural extension of that experience. Those games included "Battlefield 5" from Electronic Arts, "Fallout 76" from Bethesda Softworks and "Tom Clancy's The Division 2" from Ubisoft.

Also of note was Microsoft's pledge to make games ready to play far quicker with Fast Start, which actually seems to align with the console's initial plans for nearly immediate play.
