"Women have always achieved great things and I am pleased to see so many of them recognised this year", he said Monday.

Defoe added that he feels "blessed and humbled" to get the honour, described it as his biggest achievement to date.

THERE is no doubt that some of the well-known names in the Queen's Birthday Honours thoroughly deserve their gongs - indeed Kenny Dalglish's recognition is long overdue. Fenella has appeared on stage professionally for sixty-six years.

Keith Tordoff, owner and proprietor, Oldest Sweet Shop in the World in Pateley Bridge and chair of Nidderdale Chamber of Trade, has also been awarded an MBE for services to business and the community.

"I like to think this award honours that, and the importance of literature and creativity in the classroom".

Music historian Glenn A Baker has been made a member of the Order of Australia, while WA Opera's General Manager Carolyn Chard has been recognised for significant service to the performing arts in executive roles, particularly in Western Australia, and to support for young artists.

Holocaust survivor Ber Helfgott, also known as Ben, is knighted for services to Holocaust remembrance and education, one of almost three-quarters of those on the honours list deemed to have undertaken outstanding work in or for their local community.

In the business sphere Judy Naake, who made millions selling St Tropez self-tanning products, initially from the back of her vehicle, receives an MBE for services to entrepreneurship, the community and philanthropy.

Sister Imelda Poole, president of European anti-trafficking network Renate, receives an MBE for services to combating modern slavery.

He was awarded on Friday as part of the 2018 honours of the Queen's birthday.
