"The Duke of Sussex... attendance (at the Games), alongside The Duchess of Sussex, will be a wonderful highlight for the more than 500 competitors and thousands of spectators", Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said in a statement.

Harry and Meghan passed another royal milestone as husband and wife when they joined the Queen in acknowledging the crowds gathered in the Mall following the traditional ceremony to mark her official birthday.

The duchess, 36, was the only woman in the family not wearing a long sleeved dress. Princess Kate was dressed in one of her favorite designers, Alexander McQueen, while Meghan opted for a one-of-a-kind creation by Carolina Herrera and hat by Philip Treacy, a favorite of the Royal Family. Her most notable accessory was a Sphinx-like expression. Taking to her recently-opened Instagram account, Eugenie wrote: "90s flashback with Bea and parents to when my father commanded HMS Cottesmore".

As a newly-appointed royal with the world watching her every move, you certainly can't blame Meghan for feeling nervous.

She and Harry arrived at Buckingham Palace in the back of a vehicle before switching to their carriage for the big occasion. Donning the cool blue tones of an Alexander McQueen number, the Duchess of Cambridge looked pretty.

As we all know, The Queen loves to be colourful when it comes to her wardrobe so each family member wore bright and attractive colours in honour of the event.

Prince Harry is relegated to a spot in a carriage because he is not a royal colonel.

Twitter users who were on holiday near the hotel reported it had "strangely high" security levels and "grounds closed to all" last week.

The couple postponed their honeymoon by several days to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in honor of Prince Charles three days after their spectacular wedding last month.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who celebrates his 97th birthday on Sunday, has retired from official public duties and did not attend.

Prince Philip, the Queen's husband, did not attend the event, having retired from public life previous year.

The ceremony culminates with a magnificent balcony appearance by the Royal Family.
