Trump stressed re-admitting Russian Federation to a club of industrialized nations would be good for all countries.

Trump and other world leaders don't agree on a wide range of issues from trade to the environment as well as Iran and the construction of a new United States embassy in Jerusalem.

Before departing the summit, Trump doubled-down on his assertions that the USA has been subjected to unfair trade duties for many years.

"The United States has been taken advantage of for decades and decades", Trump said.

USA policy still does not recognize Russia's referendum taking control of Crimea and continues to identify the territory as "a part of Ukraine".

Trump had already roiled G-7 members ahead of the summit and raised fears of a trade war when he placed tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada, the European Union and Mexico.

Prime Minister Trudeau is being so indignant, bringing up the relationship that the USA and Canada had over the many years and all sorts of other things...but he doesn't bring up the fact that they charge us up to 300% on dairy - hurting our Farmers, killing our Agriculture! "We have to change it, and they understand it's going to happen", Trump said. "We'll make a better deal".

Talk at the two-day summit has been dominated by discussion of Trump's move to impose punitive tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union - a move French President Emmanual Macron has called "illegal and a mistake" under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. "You want a tariff-free - you want no barriers, and you want no subsidies", he said. He didn't specify what products he could seek to target.

He also expressed a belief that there will be a joint statement at the end of the summit amid speculation that leaders would be unable to agree on a common position.

Until recently, Trump had good diplomatic relationships with Macron and Trudeau, but those connections appear to have soured in the past few weeks amid the tariffs controversy.

Trump himself told reporters on Saturday that the summit was not contentious and called his relationship with G7 allies a "10".

In a Twitter rant on Thursday, Trump lashed out at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, venting about Canadian tariffs on USA dairy products.

Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on auto imports - something which can be damaging for Europe's economy.

"There are disagreements", Kudlow said.

"I appreciate, you know, Justin has agreed to cut all tariffs, all trade barriers between Canada and the United States, so I'm very happy", Trump said with a smile. So far, Trump has held these lawmakers, including Sen.

France's finance minister has billed the group as "a G-6 plus one" in reference to Trump's isolation from other allies.

But while the other leaders failed to persuade Trump that his view of global trade was overly simplistic and inaccurate, the USA president surprised them during a meeting on Friday by suggesting that they work toward ending all tariffs and barriers, in what would effectively be the mother-of-all free trade agreements.
