Fresh from their honeymoon - its location is still a secret - the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined other senior members of the royal family to mark the Queen's official birthday celebration.

The Trooping the Colour ceremony marks the Queen's official birthday and has been performed since the 17th century.

Watched by large crowds, the newlyweds arrived in a horse-drawn carriage as part of a procession. Prince Phillip did not attend, after retiring from royal duties previous year. This year the ceremony will take place today.

Charanpreet Singh Lall just made history by being the first guardsman to wear a turban during the Trooping the Colour ceremony for the Queen's birthday. Back in 2012, the Queen took Kate, Duchess of Cornwall, for such an "away trip", this time to Leicester at the start of her Diamond Jubilee tour marking 60 years on the throne.

A daughter, wife, mother and grandmother of men who have seen active duty in the armed forces, Queen Elizabeth also served in uniform in World War II and has a deep affection for the armed forces.

Savannah Phillips and Prince George of Cambridge watch the flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping The Color on June 9, 2018 in London.

Next to the Queen on the balcony were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton who were there with their young children Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, three.

The nation will next catch a glimpse of the Duchess of Sussex on June 14, as she is preparing for her debut joint engagement with the Queen.

It's the ideal opportunity for Meghan to learn the royal ropes, as it were, from Britain's longest-reigning monarch.

Meghan also had her hair styled in a bouncy blowout.

Despite the fact that Meghan Markle is now a member of the British Royal family and that comes with a lot of rules and restrictions, especially in public, the former actress is not too anxious about following royal protocol a hundred percent.

"I'm quite proud and I know that a lot of other people are proud of me as well", he said.
