An Israeli soldier has killed a Palestinian youth during a raid in the occupied West Bank village of Nabi Saleh.

The Palestinian, identified as Ezzeddin Abdul-Hafith Tamimi, 21, was shot by soldiers, who were less than two meters away from him, and logged three live rounds in his neck.

In a statement, the military said more than 10 Palestinians tried to disrupt a force carrying out arrests in the village of Nabi Saleh and that one of them threw a rock at a soldier, striking him in the head.

He was also shot and injured by Israeli army fire several times when the soldiers were trying to abduct him, and the army abducted his brother to pressure him into turning himself in to the army. Avichay Adraee, the Arabic-language spokesperson for the IDF, tweeted on Thursday.

One of the residents in the village who witnessed the incident told Haaretz that Tamimi had been wanted by Israeli security forces and they entered the village to arrest him.

On Wednesday an Israeli parole committee rejected the 17-year-old's appeal for early release, said a spokesperson for a group campaigning on her behalf.

Israeli forces killed over 260 Palestinians in that period. most of whom Israel says were attackers. Other soldiers at the scene treated Tamimi for his wounds and later declared his death.

Video shared on YouTube by villagers shows the young man wounded on the ground as an Israeli army medic appears to administer first aid.

Nabi Saleh is also home to many members of the Tamimi clan, the most famous of which is Ahed Tamimi, 17, who was arrested previous year after she slapped a soldier who stood outside her home barring people from entering.

Nabi Saleh has always been in the spotlight for its demonstrations against Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territory, and as a result has been under heightened pressure by Israeli forces, who regularly carry out raids in the area.
