Gator lurks behind kids as they play in their yard

At the time, the children were enjoying the Slip 'N Slide. "Oh my God. Never would I expect [an alligator] so close to us", Mojica told WFTV.

A Florida mother who took out her cellphone to record her son's fun on a Slip 'N Slide also captured a trespasser who was spying on them in their yard, although they didn't know it at the time.

That's what a mum and her son thought when they chose to enjoy the sunshine with a slip-and-slide.

An alligator watches a boy play on a slip and slide.

"At first, I did not see the gator, but then I turned around and I saw it", said Mojica's son, 6-year-old Timmy.

"They say they are afraid".

Mojica said she doesn't know how long the alligator was present before she noticed it.

The recording actually ends before anybody on screen even realises what is going on too, though luckily no one was hurt. "Never imagined a gator wanting to join and play".

Mojica said she's already teaching her kids how to be safe near the water.

Mojica and her family live in Lake Nona and said she posted the video on her Facebook page to show how alligators are an issue in the area.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has warned about alligators in the warm weather.

It added that May and June are typically alligator mating season - and the reptiles will be out and about more frequently. An alligator is pictured on grass on April 29, 2018 in Avondale, Louisiana.
