Sheikh Hasina and her entourage landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines to attend the convocation programme at Visva Bharati.

Sheikh Hasina said Rabindranath kept Bangladesh close to his heart and although he was born in Kolkata, he spent a considerable time of his life in Patisar, Shilaidaha and Shahjadpur of Bangladesh. She said that people of Bangladesh would remember this support forever.

After the convocation ceremony, the Bangladesh Prime Minister and her Indian counterpart will jointly unveil the plaque of Bangladesh Bhaban.

"We have given them (Rohingya) food and shelter as we could not drive them out on humanitarian ground", Hasina said.

Many countries were locked in war over enclaves but Bangladesh and India set an example in the world by exchanging the enclaves in a festive environment. In the past, Banerjee had attended the convocation as MP, when Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister.

Hasina is on a two-day visit to West Bengal, and was speaking at the convocation ceremony of Visva Bharati University. He said Tagore had a special connection with Gujarat as well.

While highlighting the value of the phrase "Vasudeva Kutumbakam", Prime Minister continued saying that Tagore desired to develop this entire University (Vishwa Bharti) into such a place where everyone would desire to live in. Bangladesh Government is funding the construction of Bhavan.

Earlier, addressing the convocation ceremony Visva-Bharati Vice-Chancellor Sabujkoli Sen said a new chapter was opened in bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh with the inauguration of the Bangladesh Bhawan by the two Prime Ministers. "I was invited by the university and it's an honour for me to witness this historic event", Ms Banerjee said.
