(Houston would have been a toddler at the time.) The claim is supported by Houston's assistant Mary Jones (often referred to as "Aunt Mary"), who says the singer spoke of being "molested at a young age" by a woman. Described as the definitive story of the global superstar, the film features interviews with many of Houston's relatives and close acquaintances, two of whom make the claims against Warwick.

Kevin Macdonald's Whitney is having its world premiere tonight out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and Miramax and Roadside Attractions are priming the pump by unveiling the official trailer for the documentary that digs deep into the life of Whitney Houston.

Whitney debuted at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival in a midnight screening on Wednesday and the first official USA trailer just hit the web.

"When I was first approached about it, my immediate response was that I'm not really interested in Whitney Houston". In the three minute clip, Macdonald promises to answer all the "questions you want asked", namely about Houston's relationships with Brown and her longtime friend and rumored lover, Robyn Crawford.

Whitney Houston's singing backs much of the trailer, and her voice goes beyond years, beyond the screen to give chills.

"He wanted to be on the stage".

"One thing, Paula Abdul ain't s-,' Houston said in a clip of the trailer. He wanted to be in the forefront, and eventually she stepped down to lift him up", says another witness to Whitney and Bobby's strained relationship.

Whitney hits theaters on July 6. Through interviews with those who knew her best, intimate topics like "Do you think she understood herself?" and "You must have known about the drug use", are broached.
