Maharashtra stood at the second place behind Jharkhand in the Swachh Survekshan 2018, while Chhattisgarh was at the third position in the category of "best-performing states".

Puri said that the names of the worst performing cities would be announced on the day the awards would be presented.

"The Swachh Sarvekshan 2018 assessed 4,203 urban local bodies, impacting around 40 crore citizens across the length and breadth of the country, through 2,700 assessors".

Among the other winners of the Swachh Survekshan awards, Indore in Madhya Pradesh was declared the cleanest city, followed by Bhopal and Chandigarh.

Even as Bhopal has to settle as the second best cleanest city only to Indore in Swachh Bharat rankings, there was jubilation all across the city as it was a no mean feat as this time it grabbed the position defeating more than 4000 cities. The efforts made by the BMC towards cleanliness in the city in last one year has fetched it the rank as this year the competition was much tougher as the number of competitors had grown.

Boduppal on the city's outskirts in Ranga Reddy district was titled the best town in the south with the highest percentage of positive citizen feedback on civic amenities.

Citizens Feedback: To collect feedback directly from citizens and monitor the performance of Swachhata App, a citizens grievance Mobile App.

"The overall and component-wise weightage for Swachh Survekshan-2018 had a shift from Swachh Survekshan-2017 weightages", the minister said. Category-wise assessment of open-defecation free (ODF) progress, collection and transportation of solid waste and processing of solid waste saw their respective weightages being increased in this year Swachchh Survekshan.

Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday won two awards under the Swachhata Survekshan 2018, the government's cleanliness survey.

In 2016, the Swachchh Survekshan was conducted in 73 cities having a population of 10 lakh or more and capital city of States/UTs and Mysore had bagged the award of being the cleanest city of India.

While a lot of work went in to becoming the cleanest cities in 2017, a lot more work went in to retaining these rankings in 2018, especially since other cities became serious about the competition.
