New Jersey legislators have passed a law in 2012 allowing sports betting, directly challenging the 1992 federal law which says states can't "authorize by law" sports gambling.

Actually, most industry experts see the Supreme Court decision as a win for everyone involved in sports betting.

McLaughlin spent this week in Naples, Florida, this week for the Atlantic 10's annual spring meetings.

Boston-based DraftKings, which operates online fantasy sports contests, said it has a sports betting platform ready to launch in states that move toward legalization.

Will it prompt the NCAA member institutions to relax their restrictions on athletes, coaches and administrators betting on games?

Legalized sports gambling will lead to more financial losses and addiction for individuals, and more pressure on players to fix games.

Or will the rules remain as rigid as ever despite the move toward legalization? "My inclination is to say they won't".

This is a awful thing in the Bradley's eyes, partly because he thinks everyone will rush to the window to bet on high school games.

"It doubled the value of the professional sports franchises in a second", Cuban said.

Of course, the ruling will also increase the overreliance on gambling revenues by state lawmakers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere who have become addicted to funding budgets by enticing residents to lose money playing casino games. "It makes the entertainment part of our business, greater", he said. Past promises that financial gains from gaming and the state's lottery have often failed to meet expectations and created new problems with gambling addiction along the way.

So gambling has been going on and will continue to do so, undoubtedly growing in popularity in the process.

Through a spokesman, Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock declined an interview request, deferring comment to ACC Commissioner John Swofford.

On the reverse end, we have seen a lot of match fixing from places that have it outlawed, most notably Korea. "We will discuss with our membership and determine how we proceed".

The U.S. Supreme Court ruling in favor of New Jersey on Monday effectively killed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), the federal law that essentially limited sports betting to one state for the last 25 years.

We understand that sports gambling is not panacea for all that ails New Jersey.

On the other hand, others see state-level regulation as a more effective and preferable path to take. "Regardless of the particulars of any future sports betting law, the integrity of our game remains our highest priority".

Policymakers in several states, executives at some Las Vegas companies and potential bettors across the country are moving toward capitalizing on what is being touted as a landmark decision for the gaming industry. "I think this is something that benefits everybody even tangentially associated with sports". Baseball has the legendary Black Sox scandal in which the heavily favored team threw the 1919 World Series. "We look at this as an amenity that we can offer our customers". "Your personal view may differ from what the climate's doing".

In Colorado, it would be a change of law and a vote of the people to make it happen. Now, the introduction of sports betting in other states is being viewed as a catalyst that ultimately will attract more people to Las Vegas once they get a taste of it in locations close to home.

"I spoke to Senator Sweeney, and he asked me to wait", Drazin said. "I personally would not support it".

But Edwards said he didn't think it would be right to add sports betting to the list of issues that will be considered during the special session, which is supposed to focus on taxes and shoring up the state's budget for the next fiscal year, which starts July 1. "There's too much inherent risk of conflict of interest".

So when - and where - can you place your bet? It is hard to imagine professional players that could impact the outcome of a game being compromised.
