And former Gers stopper Allan McGregor will rejoin the Ibrox club on a free transfer after the Hull City player of the year turned down a new offer at the KCOM.

Meanwhile, Rangers confirmed an agreement to bring Allan McGregor back to the club today.

McGregor becomes Steven Gerrard's second signing since taking over as Rangers boss, following the capture of midfielder Scott Arfield from Burnley earlier this week.

"I'm buzzing to be back, I can not keep the smile off my face".

The 36-year-old Scotland global keeper was out of contract at Hull and knocked back the offer of an extension.

McGregor made 278 first-team appearances for Rangers from 2002 to 2012 and in an exclusive interview with the club's official TV channel at Ibrox this afternoon he admitted he is excited to play for Gerrard and McAllister at the start of a new era for the Light Blues. Just to be back is incredible. But once there is a wee sniff it could happen, then obviously it's exciting. It came as a surprise. Someone gave me a shout two or three weeks ago to say Bomber (John Brown) wanted my number.

Gerrard formally takes charge on June 1 and McGregor is looking forward to a new era at Ibrox. "I think it is a coup to land Steven Gerrard". 'Hopefully, he will bring that winning mentality back.

"Every game is an opportunity for three points and if you keep doing and doing that and doing that, as we've seen before that's what wins titles". He has won lots of silverware for this club, and has shone at the highest level in Europe.
