This change is to be set in place to stop the interruption experienced by Premier League clubs due to the start of the Premier League season in August while the transfer window remains open. The likes of Danny Drinkwater, Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Davide Zappacosta have not proven to be worthy additions.

But will we see that transfer fee smashed again?

It's all change with the Premier League transfer window this year as it opens and closes earlier than before.

Sky Sports reports that this summer's transfer window will now open on May 17 and close on August 9, before the beginning of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

In theory, Chelsea could sign Lionel Messi this Thursday and field him in the FA Cup final at the weekend.

EFL clubs (40 for) also voted in favour of falling in line with the Premier League's new deadline meaning they will adopt the same rules.

That means domestic transfers can be completed from midnight on May 17, but transfers from overseas can only be finalised once the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) opens at midnight on June 8.

The window will officially open on May 17 - just four days after the end of the season and means business may also be conducted while the World Cup in Russian Federation is taking place.

The transfer window will close at 5pn on August 9.

All four leagues will close on August 31.

The EFL transfer window is already open.

The EFL transfer window opened on May 7.

EFL clubs will still be able to sign players on loan until August 31.
