The team was sacked, then the developers GSC Game World "spun off" in their own Studio, Vostok, which is engaged in the development of the online shooter in a post-apocalyptic setting of Survarium.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 originally began development in 2010, but difficulties with the game's development led to its cancellation and the eventual closure of GSC Game World.
