"Every political party should contemplate where the country is headed", Congress general secretary Mohan Prakash said.

Talking to mediapersons here after the declaration of results of Karnataka assembly elections, Mr Patil said, "People do not believe in EVMs and numerous prominent people in the country are talking about possibility of tampering of EVMs in favour of a particular party".

As votes for the Karnataka elections were counted and the BJP seemed set to emerge the single largest party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray agreed with Uddhav Thackeray. "This is a victory for the EVM", he tweeted. "We just have one MLA in that state and can't do much", said Ambeth Rajan of BSP, which had tied up with JD (S). "The Election Commission should conduct elections through ballot boxes to remove doubts". According to sources, the Congress wants to ensure that the BJP is stalled from setting up government in Bengaluru ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as it will deal a blow to Opposition morale. At that time, the election commission had rejected the charge.

"I believe if the Congress and the JD (S) prove that they have support of 116 MLAs and the governor still does not give them the opportunity to form government, its reverberations might be seen in Parliament and it may be disrupted for several days", Raut told reporters here. The by-election was necessitated due to the death of senior Congress leader and his father Patangrao Kadam.Mumbai: As many as 25 candidates are in the fray for the by-elections to Bhandara-Gondia and Palghar Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra to be held on May 28.

"If you (BJP) trust yourself, hold elections through ballot papers once", Uddhav Thackeray said, reacting to the Karnataka election results.
