DORTMUND, Germany (AP) - Germany included injured captain Manuel Neuer in its preliminary World Cup squad on Tuesday, striker Nils Petersen was a surprise call-up, and Mario Goetze was left out altogether. However, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper will be monitored during the training camp, reports Xinhua news agency.

"It shows great mutual trust and respect that we will continue to work so well with all decision-makers in the field of sport and I have always said that Jogi Low is the best coach for the national team", Grindel said.

Neuer, who has not played since September, was expected to miss the tournament after Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynkes revealed he was unlikely to play again this season.

"It wasn't Mario's season".

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner appears to have the centre-forward role locked down, while Mario Gomez and Sandro Wagner will vie for a back-up role with only one of them likely to make the final cut.

Among others who missed out are Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, who is now unfit, and young Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.

The squad consists of 18 players from the Bundesliga, 2 from La Liga, 4 from the EPL, 2 from Ligue 1 and 1 from Serie A.

The squad and their club-side are as follows: Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Kevin Trapp (PSG).

The Premier League is also represented in the squad, with Arsenal's Mesut Ozil joined by Manchester City duo Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane, along with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.
