Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian Solo Film Idea Shut Down By LucasFilm

Not even the prospect of a Han Solo origin story stiffened it up.

Young Han is scrappy and overconfident and makes things up as he goes along, unafraid to lie or trust his gut. By becoming a pilot, he believes he can make his way back to Corellia to find and rescue Qi'ra. It's only a matter of time before he will be killed on the battlefield in the name of the Emperor. But no matter: He's appealing anyway, and that's key to any pleasure you might draw from Ron Howard's wobbly foray into the Star Wars sidebar universe. This is how Solo was before the galaxy chewed up all the youthful optimism he had about life and spit him back out.

Does it belong in the Star Wars canon?

After production problems including fired directors, things weren't looking so good for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The switch was made mid-production due to creative differences with LucasFilm. That would lead you to believe that this film could be a massive train wreck.

The Star Wars franchise is one near and dear to the hearts of audiences, as it's a series that has been passed down across generations. Well if he did, then it worked. Is Ehrenreich a modern-day Harrison Ford? He's younger; funnier; more cocky. It's a narrative that is consistently being lurched unnaturally from point to point in order to cover every single facet of Han Solo, most of which is already implicit or unnecessary. The budding partnership between he and Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) feels perfectly paced and earned, both orphans of a corrupt empire searching for a place. Ron Howard is Solo's credited director, but we all know he didn't start out that way, and I confess to spending the first little bit of Solo trying to spot the joints.

Solo is not the disaster that many feared when news leaked out of those firings and hirings. Nonetheless, the end-product has satisfied fans and movie critics.

And Han also chances across a charismatic dandy-ish smuggler, gambler and flier called Lando Calrissian, a very amusing performance from Donald Glover. But like Ehrenreich, he still manages to put his own unique imprint on the character. The love/hate relationship he has with Han and Chewie is a lot of fun.

Glover also gets some of the best costumes, including a selection of capes a la Screamin' Jay Hawkins. I actually think Glover could carry such a film.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a droid too earned plaudits. The decision to explore Lando's story is the right one, and not a surprising one.

"I'm gonna tell you how it feels to play a woman". The Westworld star - who is the first black actress to appear in a starring role in the epic franchise - donned a custom Vivienne Westwood gown decorated with the black male stars of previous Star Wars films.

Emilia Clarke as Qi'ra and Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in "Solo: A Star Wars Story". It throws up a gallery of characters that are attractive and intriguing in equal parts.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983)- Fan Score: 94 percent. There are references to the Clone Wars cartoons. In my mind, Rogue One has the upper hand. As for the music, it was well done. There are gorgeous moments when the Millennium Falcon flies the Kessel Run.

Remember in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade how in the opening scene Indy got his whip, his fear of snakes, his hat, and his scar all within the matter of a few minutes?

A Star Wars Story comes in so fresh and so clean (clean) in the initial critic rankings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Business Insider Solo is not an very bad movie, it just has a few terrible parts that feel uninspired.

Over the years I finally figured it out.

"I'm going to have a toy and everything".

Solo: A Star Wars Story is scheduled to release in India on May 25. There was no way an actor would be found who had that kind of swagger on set of, "this is all pretty dumb", which is kind of necessary for this character. I give it a solid "Meh." and 2.5 out of 5 stars.
