Jose Mourinho confirmed before the game that the Frenchman would start against Watford in the final match of the domestic year.

Don Balon claim Bale leaving Real Madrid this summer is "well known", which is no surprise given they've linked half the Premier League to the player.

"I'm going to organise my coaching staff next season in a way where the assistant-manager doesn't exist", Mourinho said.

However, while it's clear Mourinho rates the youngster extremely highly, it doesn't seem as though Gary Neville has the same opinion. And he wasn't exactly full of praise for the midfield. City's interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has also been well-documented, but upon being quizzed about his future yesterday, the 25-year-old said Palace "is my home and there's no reason for me to leave". I'm not getting carried away here.

"He's a big lad".

The Serbian worldwide, Milinkovic-Savic, is expected to cost £80 million (R1.33 billion), which would see him become United's second most expensive signing ever if the transfer is completed.

The 21-year-old played the entire 90 minutes during the 1-0 victory and Mourinho hit back at Neville after the game.

Addressing the fans, Carrick added: "I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their support over the years, it's been unbelievable". Left-back is a position that Premier League runners-up United are evidently desperate to address, with Luke Shaw having made just eight top-flight starts this season amid a hard relationship with Mourinho.

And Mourinho was leapt to the defence of his midfielder when asked for his thoughts on Neville's recent comments about McTominay. "It changes overnight. I am not training this week".

"When I first came into the group he said "the players have to like you" and it's one of the most important things going into a new dressing room, that you are a likeable person and you get on with everybody".

'I will support as best I can.

"It's important to be liked and on the pitch".

"I have to thank the manager an very bad lot".
