The first launch of a heavy rocket, the Falcon 9 version Block 5 was held on 11 may 2018. His speech mentioned details including redesigning a pressure vessel which was associated in the explosion of rocket in 2016.

"That is the design intent", he said. "And I think our most conservative customers would agree with that".

If weather conditions permit, the rescheduled launch for Friday will be SpaceX's 60th total launch and 54th Falcon 9 launch.

SpaceX blamed "a normal ground system automobile abort" for stopping the countdown 58 minutes prior to liftoff. It carried up the first satellite belonging to Bangladesh.

"It's really better in every way than the Block 4", Musk said.

In September 2016, a Falcon 9 exploded during preparations for a static fire test and destroyed a telecom satellite for Israeli fleet operator.

SpaceX tracked the cause to liquid oxygen at the top phase tank which has trapped between the COPV overwrap and lining and sparked either from friction or alternative mechanics.

While the first Block 5 Falcon 9 launch was a major event in and of itself, it was also responsible for carrying the first satellite for the government of Bangladesh - Bangabandhu Satellite-1 - into orbit.

"This is unquestionably the most innovative pressure vessel developed by humankind", Musk said. "It's nuts. I've personally gone over the design; I can't count how many times. I believe we remain in an excellent scenario".

Musk said the COPVs now have a burst pressure "more than twice what they are actually loaded to on the pad".

"The word "block" is a little odd".

Hans Koenigsmann, a senior SpaceX manager said in a press statement,"Block 5 basically summarizes all that we learned on reusability". The eventual plan is for the rockets to land vertically, be taken back down to horizontal, have a new payload attached, be put back upright on the launchpad, and sent back into space. First stages of previous Falcon 9 iterations have flown a maximum of two orbital missions.

In comparison, the Block 5 Falcon 9 is twice as powerful as the Falcon 9 that first launched a demonstration resupply mission for NASA in 2010. The Merlin engines on that very first variation had 95,000 pounds of thrust for each first-stage engine and 92,500 pounds of thrust for the second-stage engine. It is the company's most reusable version of the rocket and the final version of the Falcon 9. "Ironically, we need to take it apart to confirm that it does not need to be taken apart", Musk told reporters on a call before the flight. "The secret to Block 5 is the fact that it is meant to perform 10 or more flights without a refurbishment between every flight. The only thing that has to alter is to refill propellant and fly once again".

SpaceX's newest Falcon 9 rocket launch has been delayed another day until Friday, May 11th, 2018.

Musk said the Falcon 9's octaweb construction, used to encourage all nine first phase engines and supply compartmentalization if one or more neglects, is now much more powerful. The octaweb is made with bolted instead of bonded aluminum and has higher thermal security to prevent melting, he stated. SpaceX includes a contingency layout that would entail shifting from high-strength carbon fiber using an aluminum lining into the superalloy Inconel, but this is "unlikely to become mandatory", Musk said. Placed between the first and second stages of the rocket, which are painted white, the jet-black carbon fiber interstage harkens back to SpaceX's first rocket, the Falcon 1.

"We mean to stabilize the Block 5 stage and don't have any significant upgrades".
