"What a glorious day for Israel", Netanyahu said. He was not present at the ceremony, but there was his daughter Ivanka trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"We emphasize that such a step which disregards the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people will not serve peace, security and stability in the region", the ministry said in a statement. "Rather, it is a necessary condition for it".

The United States has officially relocated its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in a deeply controversial move that angered Palestinians and drew widespread worldwide condemnation, Al Jazeera reported.

"We are witnessing a complete partnership between Israel and the United States towards oppressing Palestinians and violating their rights, not only in Jerusalem but oppressing Palestinians in the West Bank... so basically the USA is playing a major role in pushing toward more and more injustice and crisis in the region", the lawyer pointed out.

Israel's military dropped leaflets into the enclave on Monday, warning Palestinians "not to serve as a tool of Hamas" or approach or damage Israel's frontier fence.

About 50,000 Palestinians massed on the border by mid-afternoon on Monday.

The clashes took place as a White House delegation and Israeli officials gathered for the embassy inauguration ceremony in Jerusalem. The Israeli army said that at least 35,000 Gazans amassed at the border, and that protesters threw Molotov cocktails, burned tires and threw stones at soldiers, according to CNN.

Meanwhile, Israel carried out air strikes on buildings it said were Hamas arms factories in Gaza. "We, on the other hand, are defending our homes".

Now Israel accuses Hamas of orchestrating the weeks of protests at the Gaza border, using the demonstrators as a shield to conduct attacks. Nakba, which falls on May 15, is the day which Palestinians regard as the day of mass exodus from their land as a result of Israel's establishment.

US President Donald Trump also commented on the embassy's opening, but not on the protests.

"Today, Jerusalem is the seam of Israel's government". Its ambassador visited the new site, in an office building in the western part of the city, on Monday.

In London, the British government said it had no plans to move its Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and said it disagreed with the USA decision to do so.

Kuwait took that step Monday, requesting an opening meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday morning to discuss what a spokesman for Kuwait's United Nations mission called "the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, in light of the developments on the ground and the killing of innocent civilians".
