Stewart isn't the first person to take her shoes off on the red carpet since then, with Julia Roberts going barefoot at Cannes in 2016 at the premiere for Money Monster. The red carpets of Cannes may be known for their outlandish fashions, but this year comfort trumps all, just ask Kristen Stewart.

The Twilight actress wore black Louboutin heels as she arrived at the BlacKkKlansman premiere.

Stewart walked the red carpet at last night's premiere of Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman" and after posing for photographs, and in full view of the gathered press, removed her Christian Louboutins and walked up the famous Cannes steps barefoot.

"There's definitely a distinct dress code", Stewart said at the time.

After passing the first junket of photographers, the actress made a decision to exit the red carpet in comfort, taking her heels into her hands and making her way up the famed Palais stairs.

However she did confess that while she loves the festival itself, she does not support its red-carpet policy.

She was apparently not sanctioned for taking off her heels. People get very upset at you if you don't wear heels or whatever'.

The move could have also been a dig at the expectation for women to wear heels at the glitzy festival, which made headlines and spawned the term "heelgate" in 2015 after well-dressed women were denied entrance into a screening due to their flat shoe choice. "You can not come in", then (I'm going to say), "Neither is my friend, does he have to wear heels?".
