The arrival of a new form of Star Fox could signal some new popularity for the series though, and that's worth a celebratory barrel roll no matter what.
According to a verified Reddit rumour (via Nintendo Insider), Retro Studios is working on a game called Star Fox: Grand Prix, which is said to be a racing game in the vein of Diddy Kong Racing, and F-Zero. Indeed, this alleged Star Fox: Grand Prix sounds like a bit of an outlandish possibility, but it's also one of those things that's just weird enough that there might be some truth to it. IGN received a logo from an unnamed source as well. Our sources suggest that each Grand Prix would be made up of three races that culminate in a boss battle and that players would be able to compete online.
When Metroid Prime 4 was announced previous year at E3, the conclusion most came to was that Retro Studios was working on it. The secretive Texas-based developer has been a favorite amongst hardcore Nintendo fans since bursting on the scene with Metroid Prime, but they've been even more quiet than usual since shipping Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in early 2014.
Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation has been the subject of nearly daily rumors and speculation.
Nintendo is known for their secrecy...well, except when it comes to Super Smash Bros leaks, but hey, aside from that, they're really good about keeping secrets.
As for what else we know about the game, it appears that it will be a mixture of Diddy Kong Racing and F-Zero, though gameplay will be closer to F-Zero.
Though the tipster doesn't explicitly say it will be announced at E3, this is very likely.
