File this in your Pleasant Monday Morning Surprises folder: Superhot is getting a Japan-inspired standalone, codenamed Superhot JP. GameTomo are working on the game at their Tokyo studio, with assistance from the original developers at Superhot Team.

The tentatively titled SUPERHOT JP will be the latest iteration of the SUPERHOT saga and takes the red guys all the way to Japan.

Superhot JP will feature an all-new storyline as well as a range of Japanese settings including "hot springs, samurai castles. karaoke bars and bullet trains".

It's also not a VR game for the moment, explained GameTomo.

Superhot's distinct gameplay and art style will be unchanged, but GameTomo is expanding on the original with a new UI, new menus, not to mention a completely new story inspired by the Japanese theme. There's going to be a few new weapons, including a bow, and the game modes that are in the original SUPERHOT will be making a comeback. The game is now set to release for PlayStation 4 and PC in Japan first, then worldwide.

No hard release date as yet, but GameTomo says Superhot JP will be "priced very reasonably". It's stated that a Japanese release is taking full priority, but other countries worldwide will be considered as time goes on.
