Worryingly, the majority of these requests come from primary schools, which the NSPCC say do not have the funding or services to support their students.

The CIPD/Simplyhealth Health and Wellbeing at Work report also revealed that mental ill-health was now the main cause of long-term absence in more than a fifth of United Kingdom organisations (22 per cent) and that stress-related absence had increased over the a year ago in more than a third (37 per cent) of businesses.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust, which runs the CAMHS service for the county, said the higher number of referrals were as a result of making the system simpler.

In nearly a third of referrals for which data is available, children were denied specialist treatment from Child and Adolescent Mental health Services (CAMHS).

Booths were also provided information for resources including the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Serenity Mental Health, National Alliance on Mental Illness and other health and wellness providers.

Dr Max Davie, officer for health promotion at th RCPCH said, 'Paediatricians working in the community have also noted a surge in referrals for emotional and behavioural difficulties, often once CAMHS have rejected the referral, ' he said.

Spire FM is joining hundreds of BBC and commercial radio stations around the United Kingdom to broadcast a one-minute message about mental health.

"Stress is a significant factor in mental health problems including anxiety and depression". It found that 123,713 referrals have been made since 2014-15.

Dozens of kids and families swarmed the green belt at Eagle Valley Middle School during Carson City's Family First Field Day for Mental Health Awareness.

However, three-quarters (77 per cent) of workers said the support of an effective manager helped with their management of stress and mental wellbeing.

The government has pledged to introduce four-week maximum waiting times for Camhs but it has been criticised because they will apply only to up to a quarter of England by 2022-23.

"We must make sure that Childline is adequately funded so it isn't left vulnerable and can be there for the children who have nowhere else to turn". It is vital that Government urgently provides more funding to Childline and help children who don't have access to support elsewhere'.

"We know we need to do more which is why we have extended our schools and NHS link pilot to deliver training in 20 more areas of the country this year", he said.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) said the statistics highlighted the pressures the pressures mental health services are under in England today and the number of referrals from primary schools was "particularly concerning".
