Alisson feels his ex-teammate and Liverpool forward is in such great form that he is "feared like" Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

However, at this early stage, Salah is undoubtedly a strong candidate.

"With the season he's having he can get into contention for the Ballon d'Or, or at least get among the top three, even if the games are done after the Champions League and especially after the World Cup", Alisson told Gazzetta Dello Sport".

Certainly, his stats this season stand up to those of Messi. He's now on 44 goals in all competitions this season, having played 50 games.

Barcelona are La Liga champions. Not only has he scored more goals than any other player in the Primera Division, he has racked up the most assists (12) and created the most chances (82).

Very few debut seasons compare to what Mohamed Salah has achieved at Liverpool since joining the club just nine months ago.

That puts the Argentine on 64 points, two clear of Salah, who had seven shots in the 0-0 draw with Stoke on Saturday, but could not hit the target.

Winning the Ballon d'Or may be a step too far for Salah this year, but if Liverpool do end up Champions League winners, anything could happen.

Ribery, meanwhile, was a key man in Bayern's treble triumph yet lost out to Ronaldo, who didn't win a single title with Real Madrid.

But Elmohamady thinks Salah still has a way to go to beat either of them. "And he did it at Fiorentina and Roma, then came back to the Premier League and you see what he can do now", El-Mohamady explained.

Lionel Messi's hat-trick in Barcelona's win at Deportivo on Sunday saw him overtake Mo Salah in the race for the European Golden Shoe, Skysports reports.

In terms of individual accolades, the Egyptian was recently named PFA Player of the Year and scooped the FWA Footballer of the Year award on Monday.

"But we can stop him playing as a team".
