Following a request by the Republican chairmen of the House Intelligence, Oversight and Judiciary committees, the Department of Justice has given Congress copies of the memos drafted by former FBI Director James Comey on his interactions with President Trump. But even before his blockbuster book deal, Comey was doing just fine. "I mean, my goodness - I wouldn't want to be in Jim Comey's shoes if the IG is digging into these memos line-by-line trying to see if he might have left something in that shouldn't have gone out the door", Dupree said. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Comey earned about $6 million during his previous year at Bridgewater.
Asked to describe that January 6, 2017 meeting two weeks before Trump took office, Comey said: "Really weird". However, Trump claimed that Flynn hadn't done anything in his phone call with the Russians and he hoped that Comey would let Flynn go since Flynn had "been through a lot".
President Donald Trump told former FBI Director James Comey that he had serious concerns about the judgment of his first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and Trump's chief of staff asked days later if Flynn's communications were being monitored under a secret surveillance warrant, according to memos maintained by Comey.
Trump has repeatedly taken aim at Comey - at one point calling him an "untruthful slimeball" - as the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief conducts a publicity tour to promote his new book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership, a 304-page tell-all that portrays the president as an ego-driven congenital liar. Trump's comment about jailed reporters finding a "new friend" in prison is vile and beneath contempt. Giuliani said that he planned to somehow "negotiate" with Mueller to end the Russian Federation investigation.
Trump has also weighed in on the memos, saying Thursday night that they show "clearly that there was NO COLLUSION and NO OBSTRUCTION". As recounted in my post, Comey actually dictated an on-the-spot memo about the very conversation with President Bush that he told the Senate committee he "didn't feel, with President Bush, the need to document it in that way".
Comey made the surprising admission during a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee in June 2017 that he had leaked his memos, most of which were marked secret, to a friend with the stated goal of having them reach the press. "It's possible, but I don't know". The dossier contained wildly graphic and lurid allegations that Trump was being blackmailed by the Kremlin with footage of him with Russian prostitutes.
"Andy McCabe and Jim Comey had an excellent relationship", Bromwich said.
