A cat that walked 12 miles back to his family and was then nearly euthanized has been adopted by a new family. That journey consisted of 12 miles and having to find his way back, but he was able to do just that in a rather miraculous venture that reunited his family with him.

"I'd like to say that it was surprising but unfortunately there are a lot of stories like Toby's", Tara Lynn, communications manager for the SPCA of Wake County, tells MNN.

Reportedly, Toby's family no longer wanted him, so they gave the furry animal to another brood.

In a Facebook post, the SPCA said, "The family he thought had loved him took him to a shelter and asked staff to euthanize him".

"The shelter called us at the SPCA to ask if we could take him in and help him find a new family", the SPCA wrote on Facebook on April 4.

The SPCA and the shelter did not release the name of the family who abandoned Toby and tried to have him euthanized, but that didn't stop others from sharing their opinions.

Those who saw Toby's story on social media expressed anger and frustration towards the family that was so easily willing to put Toby down. A video of Toby has had more than 5,300 views.

This story will absolutely break your heart!

Then Friday the 13th turned out to be Toby's lucky day. Instead of settling in to his new digs, Toby walked 12 miles and returned to his first humans.
