Ian Somerhalder, who played one of the hottest vampires on TV in The Vampire Diaries, is returning to the small screen in another series about the bloodthirsty creatures. His character is faced with a daunting task as he watches his best friend rise to power among the vampire crowd, leading the very war Swann is trying to stop.
Somerhalder is, as discussed above, best known for his role as Damon Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries which ran from 2009 to 2017.
No word yet on when Somerhalder's series will hit the 'Flix, but we're readying our wooden stakes just in case.
Vampires seem to be what #Ian Somerhalder knows best.
Edited by Jonathan Maberry, "A Chronicle of the Vampire Wars" is the name of a comic series. The mysterious illness transforms Michael and begins to spread, splitting society up into factions as uninfected people begin to fight back against the new vampire threat.
Somerhalder will also be directing episodes of the series with Brad Turner directing the pilot episode and executive producing. High Park's Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will executive produce along with IDW Entertainmentpresident David Ozer, IDW CEO Ted Adams, James Gibb of Marada Pictures. "We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that (author) Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide". He and his Rare Birds Productions are now under a pod deal at Warner Bros. Television with actress Nikki Reed, his wife, via their Rare Bird Productions banner. The genre drama joins a roster of Marvel fare including the recently renewed Jessica Jones and gives the streamer a series vampire drama as The CW is prepping the final season of Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, while working on yet another offshoot from the franchise.
