The party says it's important to remember the struggle icon's message.

State House did not respond to questions about the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela street naming yesterday.

The EFF leader, who once described Madikizela-Mandela as the " brick the builders rejected", berated the liberation movement for not allowing the struggle hero to speak when then president of the ANC youth league, Peter Mokaba, died.

And even though he lauded President Cyril Ramaphosa at the start of his address, Malema later hit out at him, without mentioning his name, over the killing of striking mineworkers in the North West's Marikana tragedy in 2012. What do we do with them?

In addition, Geingob said a year ago, he chose to honour Madikizela-Mandela with the highest honour of Namibia but she was unfortunately not able to receive her honour in person.

Madikizela-Mandela's grandchild, Zondwa Mandela said her death was a "wound" that would never heal, adding that Madikizela-Mandela was a hero who sacrificed her own life for the betterment of her people.

"She combined rare multiple roles of a woman: a mother, grandmother, freedom fighter, party organiser and a parliamentarian among others".

Well-known journalist Thandeka Gqubule, who has been accused of being part of the Apartheid regime's Strategic Communications (Stratcom), says she will be approaching the courts to declassify documents linked to the covert operation. The reignition of her legacy has reigned supreme with women everywhere wearing black and power doeks. "Only they know why they chose to share the truth now", she said.

Zanani also slammed the media's "obsession" with her mother's personal life, saying that "the world holds men and women to different standards of morality". "She fought because the fight against apartheid was not some polite picnic at which you showed up in your best behaviour", she said.
