VINCENT KOMPANY BASKED in the glory of clinching the Premier League in unexpected fashion on Sunday - then immediately challenged Manchester City to defend their title next season. They were the right ones and the ones we believed in, I'm sure there are differences to how we play today compared to Bayern (Munich) and Barcelona, we survive and live by the strength of the team.

United boss Jose Mourinho paid tribute to City, saying: 'They won the title because they were the best team, because they won a great amount of points'.

'We all believed in it, otherwise it wouldn't happen, ' Kompany said.

Kompany and several of his teammates later toasted their title triumph with fans. "I've never been able to retain a title and I want to see whether this team can be even more successful".

Kompany was joined by Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Fabian Delph and Kyle Walker joined the skipper at a packed Hale Wine Bar, where the players were seen belting out Oasis' Wonderwall and being serenaded by supporters expressing their delight and gratitude.

"I may be the first one thinking about next season".

Kompany made a speech to mark the moment, as he and and his team-mates posed for photos as they left the venue at 10.30pm, leaving to a chorus of "campiones, ole, ole, ole".

"The desire to never be satisfied has transferred to the team", Kompany said. There is so much to do before we unlock our full potential'.

Watching the Red Devils lose to West Brom, a result which handed the title to the Citizens, City captain Kompany was with his wife Carla Higgs and her family, which includes her United supporting dad. I think there was a period of adaptation that was needed, for him and us.

"I had a feeling when I woke up this morning. [Carla's dad] is a better loser than victor!"

"If I had met him when I was 20 years old, I would have improved so much", the Belgium worldwide said.
