The dead body of the minor girl was discovered in Surat amid the widespread anger against rape of a 17-yerar-old girl in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh and rape and murder of 08-year-old girl in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir.

On Sunday, Surat police Commissioner Satish Sharma sought people's help in finding the identity of the girl.

The rapes and murders in Kathua and Unnao have sparked shock and outrage across the country with the BJP being accused of trying to shield the accused in both cases.

The body of the 11-year-old was on April 6 by the police at a ground in Surat's Bhestan area but she has not yet been identified. Also, the injuries were largely caused by a wooden weapon.

Notably, Surat city police yesterday, based on her postmortem report, confirmed that the girl was kept confined for eight to ten days, repeatedly tortured and sexually assaulted. According to sources, the police has already seen profiles of about 8,000 girls, who have gone missing from different states.

While the Surat Police have announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for information on the girl or her family, a local developer, Tushar Ghelani, said he'll pay Rs 5 lakh to anyone providing information regarding the victim.

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has said that the minor who was found raped and murdered in Surat may be from Odisha. "Samples have been taken for forensic test to ascertain whether she was drugged or not", ANI quoted Ganesh Govekar, Forensic Head, Civil Hospital as saying.

The Gujarat Police has yet failed to identify the victim. The minister assured that the perpetrators of the gruesome crime would not be spared. There is indeed a possibility that the girl may have been raped, tortured and killed elsewhere. "Our daughters will definitely get justice", he added.

"On conducting a post-mortem, we found wounds on her body which were between one to seven days old".

According to officials, the body was held captive and subjected to rape and torture over a period of time. The girl's father was beaten by the MLA's brother and sent to jail.
