The most interesting, yet long anticipated, was a PC, PS4 and Xbox One Shenmue remaster. Sega confirmed the news at Sega Fest 2018, saying these action-adventure classics will be making their way to PS4 in Japan. The official announcement trailer is not enough to base on, either, since Sega noted at the start that "This trailer uses pre-release footage, and represents a work in progress".

So it isn't a remake and it would be hard to define them even remasters, which indeed is not the terms used by the publisher, and "HD" it's not even mentioned nor on the box art neither in the press releases delivered thus far.

The remastered versions of Shenmue and Shenmue II will preserve all of the content from the original releases but will feature some modern-day upgrades. The third installment in the series ran a successful Kickstarter campaign and is expected to be out later this year. The re-releases will come with scalable resolutions, classic and revamped control schemes, an updated interface, graphics options on PC and the ability to switch between the Japanese and English voiceovers.

Those unfamiliar with the Shenmue series, the first game follows the exploits of teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki after he returns to his family dojo only to witness a confrontation between his father and a mysterious Chinese man named Lan Di who ends up killing Ryo's father.

We knew it was coming - Sega's been teasing us for a couple of years now - but this is the first time we've had definitive confirmation.
