On Thursday, it was reported that Hornacek was sacked from his coaching position after finishing 60-104 in two seasons. He was teammates at Princeton with Knicks' president Steve Mills, which made Blatt a rumored candidate for the NY before Hornacek was hired.

The Knicks have been granted permission to talk with former NY head coach and current Clippers assistant Mike Woodson, reports ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Woodson was sacked by the Knicks in 2014 after leading the franchise for two seasons, but isn't expected to be a top candidate. A few teams didn't like the direction they were headed in terms of coaching, and more will likely follow as the offseason rolls on for teams that didn't make the playoffs. He had one year remaining on his contract.

New York's vacancy has been linked with the likes of Jerry Stackhouse, Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson, and David Fizdale.

Given the general level of ineptitude, and at times dysfunction, enjoyed by the Knicks since James Dolan became majority owner, the head coach is never on stable ground. At the end of the day, you want to come to NY, based on my body of work there. "Somebody calls me and gives me the opportunity to talk, I'd be happy to talk". Porzingis has faith in the new Knicks' front office management. It is unclear if or how Porzingis' injury will impact their approach. The torn ACL he suffered midway through this season is expected to keep him out for at least the first month or so of next season.

If the Knicks offer Porzingis an extension next summer rather than this summer, it could create an additional $10 million in cap space for the club in the summer of 2019.
