Her attackers, which included temple official and policemen, drugged and gangraped her over days before finally killing her and dumping her body in a forest nearby, seven days later.

A much-relieved Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for defusing the situation and said the unfortunate incident had brought the people of the state and the rest of the country "together".

The senior BJP leader admitted that the two ministers displayed lack of discretion by taking part in the rally, but made it clear that there was no attempt to sabotage the investigations as charged by the Congress party.

Jammu: The family of the eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua has chose to request the Supreme Court to transfer the trial to another state. She taken to a temple in Rasana village in Kathua district.

The HEM demanded the release of the accused arrested by the police and hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation. "We want justice to the poor departed soul whereas it is evident that the fringe elements are making it communal under an agenda", he said.

Amid the growing anger and protests over the gang rape and brutal murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, the Women and Child Development Ministry said it would move a notice to amend the POCSO Act and bring in the death penalty for child rape.

Both the alliance partners - the BJP and the PDP - had separate legislature party meetings in Srinagar and Jammu to discuss the situation arising out of the polarisation in the state over the rape-cum-murder of the girl after some leaders of the lesser-known Hindu Ekta Manch were arrested in connection with the case. "To safeguard the interest of Jammu, I will not hesitate to fight the government or meet the prime minister personally and reiterate the demand for a CBI probe into the Kathua rape-and-murder case which is the demand of lakhs of people", Ganga told reporters in Jammu on Saturday evening.

The resignation of the ministers came soon after PM Modi assured justice for the little girl.

"I think we've seen the media reports of this horrific case, of the abuse and the murder of a young girl". I am Ashamed. #JusticeForOurChild; 8 years old.

"The charge that the two ministers were pro-rapist is absolutely wrong".
