Bell hosted the popular radio talk show "Coast to Coast AM" before he left the airwaves in 2002.

Artwork Bell, seen on this March 1997 picture, died Friday, Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly confirmed.

Art Bell, known for the paranormal-themed nationally syndicated radio show "Coast to Coast AM", died Friday, April 13, 2018 in Pahrump.

Bell later founded Pahrump's KNYE 95.1 FM radio station, where its broadcast studio and transmitter were stationed near his Pahrump residence.

In July 2016 Bell had a health scare, spending five days in a Las Vegas hospital, according to the show's website. An autopsy to determine Bell's cause of death is scheduled for later this week.

Fans, including celebrities like William Shatner and singer Josh Groban, took to Twitter to praise Mr. Bell.

Throughout Bell's Nationwide Radio Corridor of Fame induction in 2008, his former enterprise accomplice, Alan Corbeth, mentioned nobody was higher than Bell at understanding "how you can create theater of the thoughts".

The New York Times best-selling author and DJ retired in 2015 to spend more time with his daughter and wife, Airyn Bell.

Before "coast-to-coast AM" began, Bell, who was born in 1945, was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and then there he "cried his youth passion for tv by working on a pirate radio channel", in line to the obituary.
