Vinesh Phogat is Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat's niece, and cousins of wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari - both of them won gold in the 55 kilogram category in the Commonwealth Games. Sumit won all his four bouts in the Nordic (round robin) format to emerge champion.

She defeated Cameroon's Berthe Emillene in her first match before losing to Michelle Fazzari of Canada.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat won gold in women's freestyle 50 kg by beating Canada's Jessica Macdonald 13-3 in her last bout. She will try for bronze now. Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat in Women's Frestyle and Somveer and Sumit in Men's Freestyle will be wrestling for more medals for India. It was her good defence right at the end that helped Malik get her first major worldwide medal since the 2016 Olympics.

Sumit, on the other hand, got a walkover win. After Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware and Bajrang Punia won gold on the first two days of the wrestling competition, this was India's fourth gold in wrestling at this edition.

Sakshi, who won silver in 58 kg freestlye in Glasgow, beat Tayla Ford of New Zealand 6-5 to earn the bronze medal.

Sumit defeated Pakistan's Tayab Raza 10-4 in a dramatic bout.

Somveer wins bronze 7-3 in 86kg freestyle to settle for the bronze medal after defeating Australia's Jayden Lawrence 7-0 for a victory by fall in repechage.

Rajput smashed the Commonwealth Games record to win the gold medal in Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions.
