Qualcomm is now working on it confirmed Miguel Nunes, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies. If reports are to be believed, one can say that there's a huge possibility of Jio entering the laptop market in India.

Laptops with connectivity is the new idea being worked upon by Reliance Jio, which has been successful in disrupting the Indian telecom market through rock bottom pricing for data and free calls from anywhere to anywhere. For Always Connected PCs, Microsoft has even tweaked its Windows 10 operating system that offers same basic functionality but runs major applications in emulator mode. Qualcomm is already working with other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Asus, Lenovo and HP to launch always-connected PCs and Snapdragon 845 powered devices have also been launched in the United States by HP and Asus. Last year, Reliance Jio had clocked $4.70 (INR 300) ARPU, much higher than all its competitors in India.

No other telecom provider has such an enormous presence in consumer electronics as Reliance. That would pave the way for the SIM card to be inserted and a smartphone cum laptop can be made available to the users. With JioPhone, Reliance Jio wants those people to get on to the 4G bandwagon who can not afford buying even the entry-level smartphones.

According to Counterpoint market research firm, Always Connected PCs could generate revenue close to $5 million or Rs 30 crore revenue per month, or close to Rs 360 crore per year at a minimum to more than Rs 1000 crore a year for mobile networks in India.

Reliance is also reportedly in touch with domestic manufacturer Smartron to produce Snapdragon 835-running laptops with cellular connectivity.

Apart from its network operations, Reliance Jio continues to expand its device portfolio through its retail network.

This can probably be the future of computing as the users could enjoy connectivity in their laptops on the go, without the hassles of mobile tethering and plugging dongles.
