And motorists are seeing fluctuating prices at the pump from state to state with jumps as high as 12-cents in Utah and declines as much as 7-cents in MI since last Monday.

Including the change in gas prices in Wyoming during the past week, prices yesterday were 23.1 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 10.0 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

$2.30 per gallon in 2017; $1.91 per gallon in 2016; $2.28 per gallon in 2015; $3.51 per gallon in 2014; and $3.52 per gallon in 2013. Last month the national average was $2.534, while the year-ago average was $2.397. Higher oil prices, meanwhile, are adding to higher prices at the pump. In fact, it fell eight-tenths of a cent in the past week, averaging $2.67 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 190 gas stations in the Syracuse area.

New Mexico (+4 cents) saw the largest price increase among the South and Southeast states on the week while Florida (-3 cents) and Oklahoma (-2 cents) lead the region in price declines.

US crude oil inventories dropped by 4.6 million barrels last week and gasoline inventories fell by 1.1 million barrels.

"It's been holding steady since the beginning of April, and kind of stuck at the $2.44 a gallon range", Redman said.

Oil prices have been higher than usual due to concerns of a possible trade war between the US and China, according to Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

"The price is likely to increase as spring brings warmer weather and the switchover to summer blend gasoline, but hopefully we will only see mild jumps in coming weeks", AAA spokeswoman Jeanette Casselano said in a statement. Gas prices have gone up 25.5 cents since a year ago and is up 11.8 cents since last month.
