Danny Boyle has confirmed he is planning to direct the next James Bond film.

Asked whether there was any truth to speculation he would be helming the next Bond movie at a NY preview screening of his new TV show Trust on Wednesday, Boyle confirmed he and his long-time collaborator, the screenwriter John Hodge, were thrashing out a screenplay.

"We are working on a script right now", the Trainspotting director told the site. And it all depends on that really.

The 61-year-old said: 'I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. "But we are working on them both right now", revealed Boyle. Nevertheless, he has absolute faith in the respective writing and directing abilities of Hodge and Boyle.

"It all depends on how it turns out".

He's now working on a script with longtime screenwriting collaborator John Hodge.

As Deadline reported earlier this year, Broccoli and Wilson originally commissioned a Bond 25 script from franchise veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have scripted all of Craig's 007 movies and the Pierce Brosnan entries "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day". An MGM spokesperson offered no comment on the media report.

Which director will take on James Bond 25? He didn't give away any of the plot details, why would he, and also didn't say anything about sitting in the director's chair for the new Bond movie. Either way Boyle should bring something very interesting to the franchise, and allow him to tackle a true blockbuster.

Ever since Spectre's release in 2015, we've been left to speculate over everything to do with James Bond's 25th outing.

The 25th James Bond film is set to hit US theaters on November 8, 2019 with a traditional earlier release in the United Kingdom and rest of the world.
