My heartfelt condolences to the families of those personnel who lost their lives in Sukma blast. Apart from the 9 jawans being martyred, five CRPF personnel were reportedly injured following the blast.

According to DM Awasthi, Special DG, Anti Naxal Operations, the CRPF jawans were ambushed by Naxals while passing from Kistaram to Palodi in an anti-landmine vehicle which was targeted with an IED. He said that such incidents can not lower the morale of the jawans.

Twelve CRPF personnel were killed on March 11 previous year in the Bheji area of Sukma district and their arms looted when Maoists ambushed their patrol party.

In a major strike by Naxalites, nine CRPF forces, who went to carry out the area-domination operation, were killed and 6 injured in Sukma along the Kistaram-Palodi road of the district at around 12 o'clock on 13 March.

Security personnel inspect the site of an IED blast where nine CRPF personnel were killed and two more were injured after Maoists ambushed them in Kistaram area of Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday.

The attack came 11 days after 10 Naxals were killed in a forest area located on an inter-state border between Telangana and Chhattisgarh by joint contingents of police.

Describing the attack as a mindless and ruthless strike on security forces, the Congress said the BJP government in Chhattisgarh had learnt nothing from the 2017 ambush when 26 CRPF personnel were killed.

Officials said Maoists, led by their elusive commander Hidma and his PLGA (Peoples' Liberation Guerrilla Army) battalion no. 1, could be behind the deadly attack.

"Every time there is a Naxal attack, the Chief Minister (of Chhattisgarh) promises some tough action, but nothing concrete has been done to stop these attacks".

Soon after the incident, reinforcements were rushed to the spot, around 500km from state capital Raipur, officials said, adding further details were awaited. "It will not lower the morale of security forces".
