A person familiar with the negotiations says receiver Danny Amendola is discussing a contract offer from the Miami Dolphins and is likely to sign with them when the NFL's new year begins Wednesday.

Nonetheless, Amendola made a number of clutch catches in the postseason, including the game-winner against the Jaguars in this year's AFC Championship Game.

Danny Amendola is staying in the AFC East, just not with the Patriots.

Amendola should be able to play a prominent role in Miami.

He handled 27 of New England's punt returns last season, contributing 231 return yards, which averages out to 8.6 yards per return.

He's coming off a decent 2017 regular season where he had 61 catches for 659 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

As for the Patriots, they should still be fine at wide receiver for next season even with Amendola's absence. The team is also reportedly signing Chiefs slot receiver Albert Wilson. In his 9-year career, he's compiled more than 4,100 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Free agents can not officially sign with teams until NFL Free Agency begins on Wednesday at 4pm, but this news will certainly be hard to take for New England fans. Amendola, Wilson, Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker to be the top pass-catching options.
