Canada's first gold of the PyeongChang Paralympics was won by Mac Marcoux, guided by Jack Leitch in the men's vision impaired downhill skiing.

Former President Barack Obama on Monday tweeted his support for Lieutenant Commander Dan Cnossen, Navy SEAL, who took home silver and gold medals at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang for his performance in the biathlon and cross-country skiing events.

The 17 goals are tied for the second-most scored by Canada since Hockey Canada took over the sledge (now para) program in 2004.

McGregor opened the scoring 1:52 into the first period on a power play.

Bryan Sholomicki (Winnipeg, Man.) added a hat trick, while 12 different skaters registered at least one point in the win.

McGregor again scored the victor on a power play at 3:59 of the first period.

"There were times that I wanted to give up the sport, because I didn't make as much progress as I thought I would", he said.

This is Jallen's second appearance at the Paralympics.

After years of training and rehabilitation, Cnossen was able to compete in the Sochi 2014 Paralympics with the assistance of prosthetics.

Jallen will then return for the slalom, in which she holds a No. 6 world ranking, at 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Simon Patmore has become Australia's first Paralympic snowboard medalist, after claiming the country's first gold medal in 16 years.
