Mustang last offered a California Special back in 2016.

New for 2019 is a rev-matching six-speed manual.

The special edition pony auto going on sale this summer is a tribute to the first California Special, based off a 1967 Shelby GT notchback coupe prototype. Before long, the California Special had joined the ranks of Shelby, Boss and Mach 1 special-edition Mustangs.

Besides the paint job, today's reiteration of the California Special Mustang involves a fair share of technology. Impressed, Ford put a limited number of California Special cars into production for 1968. This year, however, on top of the signature California Special side stripe and rear fender vent, the muscle vehicle gets a B&O Play 12-channel speaker system customized to the acoustics of the car's interior and a transmission equipped with rev-matching technology.

Other special visual features include unique five-spoke painted/machined wheels, a blacked-out open grille, and a Race Red "California Special" badge on the decklid applique.

Climb inside the new GT Calfiornia Special and you'll be greeted by seats trimmed in black Miko® suede with red accent stitching and embossed GT/CS insignias, paired with embroidered GT/CS floor mats.

Customized to the acoustics of the interior, sound engineers tuned the B&O Play audio system to take both the static and dynamic states of Mustang into account to elevate the senses regardless of driving conditions. Buyers will have the choice to add a new 1,000 watt, 12-speaker B&O system to the Mustang.

Power and torque remain the same 460 hp/420 lb-ft as the regular 2018 Ford Mustang GT.

It also comes with options available on standard Mustang models, including a quiet start mode and customizable digital instrument cluster.

The 2019 Mustang goes on sale this summer.
