Suddenly, the Detroit Lions have become the preferred destination for some of the league's oldest running backs looking for one last shot at redemption.

Detroit has Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick under contract at running back.

He has a career average of 4.3 yards per carry, but his production dropped last season.

The Lions ranked as or among the worst rushing teams in football last season. Probably not. At least not alone.

Stewart, 30, has spent his entire 10-year career with the Carolina Panthers, who took him 13th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He had 659 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 15 games for the Titans last season. Stewart does the majority of his damage strictly as a runner, as he only caught eight passes for 52 yards last season. But his 3.6 yards per carry average is tied for the lowest of his seven-year career. Stewart recorded 680 rushing yards and six scores for the Panthers last season.

The Detroit Lions are hard at work to find a proven running back that can help jumpstart their disappointing ground game.
